Employee Spotlight on Camille Rivera
Biography
“It is never too late to be who you might have been” –George Elliot
Camille was originally pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice at Florida International University when she toon a part-time job at a clinic in Miami working with children on the autism spectrum. Seeing the impact the science of Applied Behavior Analysis had on the lives of children and their families, Camille promptly switched her major to psychology and became a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst (BCABA)
After moving to Massachusetts, Camille began her career at Beacon as a Behavior Therapist (BT), designing and implementing evidence based procedures to help children get the most benefit from their treatment. Determined to expand her knowledge further, she enrolled in Master’s Degree program in Education through Beacon’s partnership with Cambridge College. Camille’s conscientiousness, persistence and willingness to work hard, were key skills that enabled her to obtain her degree and then pass a rigorous certification exam to become a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA) in 2016.
Now serving as the Regional Director of the Upper MetroSouth region, Camille is responsible not only for the clinical integrity of the treatment in that area, but also organizational behavior management, staff support, and ensuring that children in the region have timely access to effective early intensive behavior treatment.
Her advice for new hires?
“Getting into ABA is one of the most challenging, but also the most rewarding, jobs you will ever have. No two days will ever be the same. However, with the support and sense of community you receive from your colleagues, you will never feel left alone. Being surrounded by people with experience that are willing to help, and answer questions will help you grown and learn in this field.”
