Beacon Services

Intensive Behavioral Education services (ABA model)

Home-based services utilize a team approach in the child’s home. A team of Home Educators, well-trained Associates, Early Intervention program staff or School personnel and the family may collaborate to provide up to 40 hours of service per week. The number of hours of service is determined by a combination of research findings, child and family capacity and staffing availability. BEACON Services staff and the treatment team, work to implement teaching programs designed to address the areas of concern identified in the initial assessments (communication, social and play skills, behavioral deficits and academic skills). The focus is always on the development of new appropriate skills to replace those that frustrate the child and interfere with family life.

Services at all levels of intensity are provided in the child’s home and are scheduled in time blocks that make sense for busy families. If the child is attending an early intervention program, day care or pre-school program, services can occur at any of these settings and be provided in coordination/collaboration with other providers.

Behavioral Consultation/Behavioral Assessment

Behavioral Consultation/ Assessment services are available to families, early intervention programs, child-care centers, and public schools. Consultations typically begin with a detailed assessment of a child’s learning profile to determine the most effective instructional practices for him/her. A "Functional Assessment" will be completed where appropriate/requested. Specific recommendations for the educational program of the child will then be delineated. The consultation can be short or long-term depending upon the request and the child’s needs.

This service is available to all children with challenging behavior and or educational needs regardless of diagnosis.

Inclusion Support Staff

As a further expression of our commitment to the inclusion of children with special needs into public school settings, BEACON can place skilled behavioral educators into public school settings to increase the likelihood that children with challenging educational or behavioral needs will remain within public school classrooms. Full or part-time staff well trained in the principles of applied behavior analysis are available to work in the public school setting to support children and collaborate with the public school educational staff.
